Welcome to the Kokopelli Choirs official weblog, for news of
events, concerts and a glimpse of the inside life of our organization and its choirs.

We have less than four hours left in the 6th Annual Sing-A-Thon, at $5500 raised towards our goal of $10,000. We're expecting Bogani to start to fill up as Kokopelli trickles in for a big performance.  We are also excited to see our latest exchange member Nunu, who has dressed up in the full traditional costume of her ethnic group, the Herero people. Doesn't she look amazing?

Right now Danielle and the Deadbeats are in the middle of their set. We love this awesome local band!

What are African Projects and why do we support them? Well, other than the basic info you can find on our site about the African Projects Fund, here are a few more tidbits about what your support means to our twin choirs:

$70 covers the expense of a meal for the singers at a rehearsal; often singers will not have the means to eat if they aren't fed at this meal.

$270 covers a month's salary for a staff member (who often forfeit their pay for months and years at a time to keep the organization afloat)

$470 is the average monthly cost of phone and internet for the choir, as both are extremely costly by Canadian standards

$400 is the cost of a year's worth of uniform maintenance for Mascato's many performances, keeping the choir looking polished and professional.

$700 is the cost of a month's worth of transportation for singers to and from rehearsals; transportation is complex and expensive in many parts of Africa, especially where choir members are scattered across communities.

Almost all these expenses wouldn't be experienced by the average Canadian choir, or at least not on the same levels. Our twin choirs are doing such fantastic and important work in building communities and giving youth a safe and productive place to gather and learn and grow. Every bit of support can work wonders!

We're at $3700! Keep the music and donations flowing....

We are at midnight on Friday and we are happy to report we are 1/3 of the way to our $10,000 goal! We need to keep the donations rolling along with the music.

Here's a photo of Ryan Chipeniuk during his set just before midnight:
