Audition Information
For all of our choirs, commitment is key. You will be presented with a draft schedule for upcoming season at your audition. Singers are expected to participate in rehearsals and performances throughout the year, barring illness, family emergency, or similar unexpected circumstances.
For Shumayela (ages 12 to 16):
Shumayela is still a growing choir, and as such the audition process is much less competitive than for our older ensembles. Still, the applicant's 10-minute audition is a deciding factor in the decision to admit a new singer to the choir.

- the applicant sings a short (30 to 60 second) a cappella song in any style (even Happy Birthday or O Canada are acceptable!)
- vocal exercises to establish the applicant's vocal skill and range
- ear training skill evaluation (short exercises to test the applicant's ability to recognize and repeat short phrases, as well as the ability to find a note within a 2- or 3-note chord)
- a brief discussion of the applicant's musical experience as well as the applicant's other extracurricular activities and interests
- a brief interview with the applicant's parent/guardian regarding the season's schedule and volunteer expectations
